Looking for an adventure to take in Florida this summer but only have a day or two? Well, you’re in luck! The Sunshine State is full of great destinations you may have never known existed. Check out our four Florida day trips we’ll be taking this summer.
Devil’s Den
If you have yet to visit Devil’s Den in Williston, put this destination at the top of your summer bucket list. Considered one of North America’s most prehistoric places, Devil’s Den is an underground spring located inside a dry cave. Walk down a short staircase and immediately feel the temperature drop as you are greeted by an otherworldly oasis of crystal clear water. Visitors looking to cool off in the beautiful spring (which is 72 degrees year round) can rent snorkeling gear for just $10. For those interested in diving, Devil’s Den is also a privately-owned scuba diving training center, offering scuba diving seven days a week.
Gulfport
One of the lesser-known destinations in the Sunshine State, Gulfport is brimming with fun activities for the whole family. Located on the Boca Ciega Bay, with a beautiful beach and fishing pier, Gulfport’s Waterfront District is a great first stop during your tour of this undiscovered city. From here, visitors can grab a bite at one of Gulfport’s wide selection of restaurants, shop for original paintings, unique gifts and rare antiques, or visit the Clam Bayou Nature Preserve, which is home to a variety of wild birds. If you happen to be in town on the first Friday or third Saturday of the month, be sure to stop by the famous Gulfport Art Walk, which boasts art, food, live music and more.
Florida Caverns State Park
Florida Caverns State Park is one of the few state parks with dry, air-filled caves and is the only state park in Florida to offer cave tours to the public! With dazzling formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and more, Florida Caverns State Park will truly make you feel as if you are in another world. In addition to guided cave tours, the park also offers camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding and more, making it a great day or weekend trip to take this summer.
St. Augustine
Have you been to St. Augustine? The oldest city in the United States offers a unique blend of history, beaches, shopping, nightlife, and of course, lots of food and drinks. Take a stroll down one of the beautiful cobblestone streets in the town’s historic district, grab coffee at a quaint cafe, peruse local artisan shops, and explore significant landmarks like the Castillo de San Marcos, Lightner Museum, Flagler College and Fort Matanzas. Located between North East and Central East Florida, is a perfect day trip or weekend getaway for residents local to Jacksonville, Orlando and beyond.
