In order to keep employees and customers comfortable, a commercial building’s HVAC system must function properly. When commercial HVACs fail to work, employee productivity can take a dive and clients may be turned off. Here are some common commercial HVAC problems.
1. Broken Thermostat
It’s easy to panic when your building’s heating or air conditioning goes out, especially if you’re a retail business. A broken thermostat is often the culprit. Before worrying that you’ll need to replace your entire HVAC system, first check the batteries to the device. If they have been recently changed, or the thermostat still does not work after replacing the batteries, call in an expert and see if the problem is the thermostat. Fortunately, replacing one is a relatively easy, affordable repair.
2. Dirty Air Filters
Just as it is with residential systems, commercial HVAC systems need regular air filter changes. Too much dirt and dust can send debris through your building’s vents, lead to odors, and even cause parts of an HVAC system to malfunction. If your office’s commercial HVAC has a permanent or disposable filter, have it cleaned at least once per month, especially in seasons of heavy use.
3. Faulty Compressors
If you notice that it has become increasingly warm inside your office regardless how low the thermostat is set, the problem may be a bad compressor. If the compressor becomes completely inoperative, the HVAC system won’t blow cold air. As it starts to go, you’ll notice a decline in performance and a rise in indoor temperature.
